My name is Heleen Swart (1996), a graphic design student at the University of Arts Utrecht (HKU). During my three years at the University I have tried to find my way into the big world of graphic design. Recently, I started exploring ways to communicate certain atmospheres with images and sounds. This way of working stimulated me to challenge the borders of graphic design as we know it. Because I like to combine things like time, movement, image and sound, I mostly work with film and photography. This could include things like video installations, life beams or edited works. I experiment a lot with light and shadows, combining digital and analogue methods. This strategy enables me to improvise and integrate contingency as an important aspect. Many of my recent works are inspired by statements of Henri Bergson. He was a French philosopher who was interested in the subject time and the way we use it.
When I’m not busy with schoolwork, I love going to concerts, finding new music or being outside at the beach of the beautiful island Schiermonnikoog.
